Reviews should provide a summary of the article, assess the strengths and weaknesses, and evaluate the research’s impact on the field. Reviewers should also consider the article’s adherence to MetaROR’s policies on data availability, research ethics, and transparency.
Once an article is deemed suitable for review, the Managing Editor assigns editors who, in turn, assign reviewers. Their reports are posted on MetaROR. Reviewers can choose to remain anonymous or sign their reviews. Authors may submit revisions and responses, and the entire process remains open to the community.
MetaROR welcomes submissions in all areas of metaresearch, including fields like scientometrics, history of science, philosophy of science, and science policy. Both qualitative and quantitative research, as well as literature reviews and meta-analyses, are accepted.
MetaROR only reviews articles that are publicly available on a preprint server. Articles must align with MetaROR’s focus on metaresearch and demonstrate the potential for impactful peer review.
Unlike traditional journals, MetaROR doesn’t accept or reject articles after peer review. Instead, public reviews and an editorial assessment are posted alongside the preprint, offering detailed feedback to authors and readers.
No, MetaROR does not charge any fees to authors submitting articles for peer review.
No. Authors should not submit their article to another journal or platform that organizes peer review while it is under consideration at MetaROR.
Yes, authors can submit revised articles after peer review, provided the revised version is also available on a preprint server. A response to reviewer comments must accompany the revised article.
MetaROR does not require a specific article format, but articles should include a clear theoretical framework, robust methods, and proper figures and tables.
Reviewers are encouraged to sign their reviews but may choose to remain anonymous. If a review is signed, the reviewer’s identity is disclosed to authors and readers. Otherwise, only editors know the reviewer’s identity.
