Streamlined Submission Process
MetaROR makes the submission process easy. Deposit your article, submit it for review, and receive feedback. No complex workflows—just a transparent and open process by following these three simple steps:

Deposit your article
You can choose the server or repository of your choice
The first step is to deposit your article on a preprint server or institutional repository of your choice. Different institutions and disciplines have their own preferences. At MetaROR, we strive to work with all of them.
For better integration, we recommend using servers that:
✔ Generate versioned DOIs
✔ Have integration with Hypothes.is for annotation
Recommended servers include:
- OSF Preprints
- ArXiv (or SocArXiv, MetArXiv, BioArXiv, etc.)
- Zenodo
- … and others supporting these features.
Once your article is deposited and has a DOI or URL, you’re ready for the next step.
Step 2
SUBMIT TO METAROR
Submit your article to MetaROR
You will need an ORCID account
MetaROR manages submissions and reviews through the Kotahi platform. Here’s how to submit your work:
1. Log in or register
- You’ll need an ORCID ID to submit.
- Visit the submission area and sign in using ORCID.
- If it’s your first time, choose “Register with ORCID” and follow the quick registration process.
2. Submit your article
- Once you are logged in, navigate to your dashboard and click the “New Submission” button at the top-right.
- Enter information into the short form’s required fields:
- Article Title
- DOI or URL
- Abstract
- Author information (name, email address, and institution, plus the option to include ORCID, if desired)
- Declaration of any competing interests (if applicable)
- Optionally, suggested potential reviewers
- Click Submit—and you’re done!
Special issues or collections
If you’re submitting to a special issue of a journal handled through MetaROR, simply select the special issue from the list. Your submission will be assigned to the editorial team in charge.
That’s it—no additional steps required.

What happens next?
Once submitted, your article will undergo review by our editorial team and invited reviewers, similar to a traditional journal process.
- Once reviews and the editorial assessment are drafted, you will have an opportunity to review them to identify any factual errors.
- Reviewers will be able to revise their review reports to correct any factual errors you identify.
- Your article, reviews, and editorial assessment will be published on MetaROR’s website.
MetaROR editors do not issue accept/reject decisions—the focus is on open review in conversation with the author.
Special issues or collections
As we don’t apply a binary accept/reject approach to the articles we review, all submissions to a special issue or collection in a journal will be published on MetaROR. The journal’s editorial board will decide which works will be included in the final special issue or collection, communicating directly with authors about any review requirements that may apply.
